Psychological Testing & Evaluation

Psychological evaluation is the process of assessing an individual, through a combination of a clinical interview and the administration of psychological tests, in order to better understand the individual’s cognitive and/or personality functioning. This evaluation can help determine whether an individual has a particular clinical problem or diagnosis, as well as in helping to create an appropriate plan for psychological treatment.

Highest level of professional and ethical standards

The psychologists and therapists at Horizon provide counseling and therapy services to children, adolescents and adults, as well as psychological testing services for the evaluation of ADHD, autism, and learning disabilities.

Psychological Testing & Evaluation

The Lake Norman region has grown rapidly over the past two decades, and Cornelius sits at the center of that expansion. Families relocating from Charlotte and beyond bring with them complex histories, unmet mental health needs, and children who may have never received a formal psychological evaluation. Nationally, 1 in 5 children experiences a mental health condition, yet many go undiagnosed for years. In a fast-growing community like Cornelius — where school enrollment has surged alongside population — the demand for accurate, timely psychological testing has never been higher.

At Horizon Psychological Services, our psychological testing and evaluation process is thorough, individualized, and designed to give you answers. We administer nationally recognized assessments to help identify cognitive strengths and challenges, emotional and behavioral patterns, and any underlying conditions that may be affecting daily functioning. Whether you are seeking clarity for yourself or your child, our evaluations produce clear, actionable findings — not just a stack of raw scores.

What is Psychological Evaluation?

Psychological evaluation is the process of assessing an individual, through a combination of a clinical interview and the administration of psychological tests, in order to better understand the individual’s cognitive and/or personality functioning. This evaluation can help determine whether an individual has a particular clinical problem or diagnosis, as well as in helping to create an appropriate plan for psychological treatment.

What is Involved in a Psychological Evaluation?

All evaluations conducted at Horizon Psychological Services include a thorough clinical interview and the administration of standardized psychological tests. Clients can expect to receive an in-depth written report within two to three weeks after the evaluation process is completed, as well as the option of a face-to-face feedback session.

Why have a Psychological Evaluation?
  • To identify mental health conditions and understand their nature and severity.
  • To guide the development of effective treatment plans.
  • To assess cognitive abilities, personality traits, and emotional functioning.
  • To provide documentation needed for accessing services and support.
  • To understand an individual’s strengths and weaknesses.
Does Insurance Cover Testing & Evaluation Services?

Insurance companies cover many psychological evaluation services, and Horizon staff will contact your insurance company to make sure that the particular evaluation service you will be undergoing is covered by your specific insurance plan. Most insurance companies do cover general diagnostic, presurgical bariatric, and ADHD evaluations. However, in general, learning disability evaluations are not a covered benefit of most insurance plans.
